A sleepy town 10 kilometers away from the Cham Yeam border crossing to Thailand, Koh Kong Province has slowly grown through the years, becoming a booming eco-tourism destination in Cambodia. A destination that tourists often pass by but never bothered to check out, the province has picked up its pace and is now building its name with its numerous adventure tours as well as casino centers in the heart of the city.
Years before, Koh Kong does not even belong to the list of places to check out in Cambodia. However, in the past years, its steady effort to transform the province and make it a lucrative destination for tourists has paid them well. Today, they offer different tours that are mainly focused in eco-tourism.
One of its famous destinations is Kbal Chhay Prek Koh Waterfall, often visited by tourists for its impressive cascades, its surrounding forest, and its breathtaking views. You can also trek the nearby Cardamom Mountain and visit the two-tiered gem that is Taitai Waterfall.
If you’re looking for a relaxing day at the beach, you can drop by at Lam Da Beach, where you can take a dip for a swim or just enjoy a day under the sun. Aside from these destinations, you can also visit the vast mangrove forest of Koh Kong, where you can witness the province’s delicate and diverse ecosystem.
Want a more luxurious activity? You can always hit the casinos in the area, which is often flocked by Thais crossing the Koh Kong Border. You can also check out the Dong Tong Market if you’re up for a quick shopping trip. From fresh fruits to Khmer cuisine and other knickknacks, you would surely find something from this humble market.
